Harriet Quimby Triolet
Harriet Quimby was the first woman pilot to fly solo across
the English Channel in 1912. I post this poem in honor of the
104th anniversary of her historic flight.
Her aeroplane's a winged cabinet of curiosity,
Levitates pilot Harriet Quimby beyond iron-age shores,
Overtakes specimens of vapours, soaked with velocity
Her aeroplane's a winged cabinet of curiosity,
Transports aviatrix --cloaked in purple numinosity--
Over frigid English Channel to Calais' silty doors
Her aeroplane's a winged cabinet of curiosity,
Levitates pilot Harriet Quimby beyond iron-age shores
