Orb             for Grandma May

I bring grandmother's

Blessèd tomato red pincushion

To her

One Indianapolis afternoon,

The sewing room's windows

Are aquariums of day,

Its white walls, light-bathed.

All cupboards, all panes

Of glass in my heart open

And flutter,

As I walk across woolen

Gardens of Persian rugs

And grandmother

Accepts the pincushion

From my hands

As if it were fruit tossed

In a mythic race
