Margaret and the Popcorn Snow, 1976

At first
The land behind her
Past the window
Was vivid green
And then as we talked
And as Margaret wept,
Corn snow started
Falling from the sky,
And bouncing
Like sphered tears
Which hers were not,
But outside, the white
Snow dropping, bouncing
On green grass
With no song to follow,
Until once the sorrow
Was finished,
And the lawn
Beyond the window,
Totally blanketed
